~ My Super Nanny ~
My Grandmother Emmalene was the most beautiful human
being I have ever known. To this day, I still refer to her simply
as “Nanny”. She was an adorable, caring and loving lady with
the heart of an angel and the wisdom of Socrates. Amazingly,
she was a proud mother of 23 (planned) children (yes 23) one
whom was Mary, my dear beloved Mother. Nanny’s husband
Seth my Grandfather, lovingly assisted her in the raising of
their large Family until he passed away prematurely at the
young age of 59. She outlived him by 41 years, having sadly
passed away on her 100th birthday. Nanny’s Family was then
complemented by an additional 7 foster children whom she
adopted following Seth’s untimely death, bringing the grand
total to 30. The love and kindness she displayed towards all
children was selfless, unending and heartfelt. It was further
accented by her ongoing work with many childrens’ charities
and organizations. Nanny had no professional training nor
degrees. When people would ask her occupation she proudly
would respond “I am Nanny to all Children of the World”.
In the final year of her life, Nanny suffered with cancer. She
was bedridden and consequently required assistance with her
everyday needs. I engaged the services of Sarah, an excellent
private caregiver. Although she appreciated my endeavours,
Nanny never really accepted the loss of her independence
and sadly, felt herself to be a lesser person. During the
final hours of her life, I sat at her bedside. She appeared
more content as I explained to her that sometimes even a
nanny requires her own nanny. At the stroke of midnight
Christmas Eve, Nanny passed away with a look of warmth,
contentment and a peaceful smile. The moment touched my
heart and I knew would live in my memory forever. Several
years later I decided to start up a Business, an Employment
Agency with the focus being on the placement of family care
givers. In loving memory of my Grandmother, I chose “Nanny’s
Nanny” as a logo. This later evolved into “A House Call Service”
which later became my Internet Web Site. Hats off to
you Grandmother Emmalene, my personal “Super Nanny”.
